Mr. Wu Guihui, Chief Engineer of State Bureau of Energy, expressed on May 27 that both China and the US had taken the development of renewable energy as an important strategic measure for energy resource and economic development. The bilateral ties between the two countries will be further strengthened in this field regarding investment, trade, equipment and capitals, and their cooperation will be further intensified.

Both China and the US are now facing the challenges of energy environment and the climate change. The development of renewable energy resources is a common task and a key point for cooperation between the two countries, said Mr. Wu at the First Sino-US Forum on Renewable Energy Industry. According to him, China and the US are the two largest energy producers and consumers, and have big potential for cooperation in the field of renewable energy development. The cooperation will not only benefit the social and economic development in the two countries, but also provide demonstration for other countries in global cooperation in energy, environment and sustainable development.

The First Sino-US Forum on Renewable Energy Industry and the Forum on Advanced Bio-fuel were jointly opened on May 26. At the opening ceremony, China and the US signed 8 cooperative agreements and formally launched the Sino-US Renewable Energy Partnership Program. The program marks a new stage of Sino-US cooperation in renewable energy development, said Mr. Wu, aiming to establish a total amount targets and policy system for renewable energy, to eliminate obstacles in grid operation and its costs, and to promote industrialization of the renewable energy production.

It is reported that the Sino-US Forum on Renewable Energy will be organized once a year in the two countries by turns, as an important mechanism for communication and cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy industry.
